Partner Spotlight: PLACED × Given To

We are honored to partner with PLACED and its founder Kate Musso, both of which are dedicated to elevating adoption education and awareness across Louisiana. Born out of a clear need in our communities, PLACED works to ensure that students receive thoughtful, accurate, and compassionate instruction about adoption—grounded in real experiences and supported by meaningful resources.

Although Louisiana has required adoption education in public schools since 2006, recent legislative changes have shifted responsibility for setting curriculum standards from lawmakers to the state Board of Education. With BESE not expected to update Health standards until the 2026–2027 school year, there is currently a gap in adoption-related content in classrooms.

That’s where PLACED comes in.

PLACED is committed to not only meeting the existing state standards — which include instruction on adoption proceedings and the Safe Haven Law — but exceeding them. The organization develops exceptional educational materials that honor all parts of the adoption triad: adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents. Their work ensures that adoption is presented with nuance, empathy, and respect.

This partnership reflects a shared mission to bring greater emotional depth and understanding to adoption education. As part of this collaboration, resources like Given To: The Gift of Adoption are made available to help educators, counselors, and families facilitate honest conversations about identity, belonging, and love.

Together, we are helping create classrooms where students not only learn about adoption — but where they feel seen, valued, and supported.
